Who is organizing the AGC?

AGC is organized by Runbuk, who also organizes extreme events such as the North Pole Marathon®, Volcano Marathon®, and Antarctic Ice Marathon & 100k® among others. Runbuk also organized the first Clock Golf Championship at the geographic North Pole and in Antarctica.

What is the price and what is included?

The Championship Expedition Fee is $24,900 USD per person, includes charter aircraft, polar accommodation, safety support, tournament operations, and expedition logistics.

What's included:

Travel: Round-trip flights between cape Town & Antarctica

Accomodation: Full-board stay at the updated oasis camp (gourmet dining included)


Championship: Entry fee for the antarctic golf championship


Excursions: Emperor penguin expedition (including internal flights), ice wall and ice tunnel tours


Souvenirs: Commemorative t-shirts, and professional photography for personal use


Support: pre-event briefing in cape town and guidance from professional polar experts

Where will I stay in Cape Town?

You will need to book your international flight to arrive in Cape Town, South Africa. It is important to make sure there is flexibility with your return ticket / date in case of delays in Antarctica. You should book your own accommodation in Cape Town. The best areas to stay include the V&A Waterfront and Sea Point.

How do I get to Antarctica?

Ultima Basecamp, Antarctica is only accessible by air and the journey involves a 6-hour flight from Cape Town, South Africa. Roundtrips tickets from Cape Town to Ultima are included in your entry fee.

Where will I stay in Antarctica?

Accommodations in Antarctica will be at Oasis Camp, a luxury retreat from the Antarctic conditions.

Exterior

Oasis Camp features beautifully crafted wooden cabins that provide a warm, intimate retreat in the heart of Antarctica, blending comfort with the raw polar landscape.

Bedroom

Each bedroom offers comfortable bedding and modern finishes, creating a cozy space to rest and recharge after a day on the ice.

Kitchen

In the Dining Cabin, guests enjoy chef-prepared meals designed to fuel adventure, with thoughtfully curated menus elevated by the extraordinary setting.

Common Area

The shared common areas are the social heart of camp, where bay windows and plush seating create a welcoming space to relax, connect, and unwind.

I’ve never been to Antarctica. Can I sign up?

Yes. We provide full guidance to help you prepare for a safe and memorable experience in Antarctica. In fact, for most players, this will be their first time visiting the continent. With a combined total of more than 100 expeditions to Antarctica by the RUNBUK crew, you will be well taken care of every step of the way.

Is anyone accepted/ what are the eligibility requirements to join the Antarctic Golf Championship?

This event is not open to beginners. All participants must be experienced golfers with prior competitive or substantial playing experience. Both amateurs and professional or retired professionals are welcome, but players should be accomplished and hold a current—or recently lapsed—golf handicap.

What type of ice surface will we be playing on?

Frozen Antarctic landmass, there is no issues with the thickness of the ice, but unexpectedly mild weather conditions can expose meltwater areas.

What handicap system is used?

Given the extreme location and lack of PAR rating on the temporary course, plus the unpredictability of the ball on ice fairways, there will be no handicap adjustment in place, just total strokes played and no provisional balls.

What tees will be used?

Everyone will tee off from the same position, regardless of age, gender or ability.

How is scoring handled?

Paper scorecards -  players are responsible for confirming and signing their scorecards

What is the format of the championship?

Stroke Play (Medal Play) – Total strokes over 18 holes wins.

Is there a practice round available?

We anticipate time to practice on the course before the championship, but given the extreme location, conditions may be adapted for championship play.

What happens in case of bad weather/poor visibility?

What temperature range should players expect?

What clothing and gear should I take?

Golf equipment: Limited clubs in a Sunday/pencil bag – in this environment you won’t need a full set for golf creatively. What is the dress code?

We encourage players to select brightly coloured clothing and pencil bags. This is a unique experience and no doubt you will treasure the photos taken by each other and our team. Against the stark white background, bold colours stand out the best and will make your photos pop!

Are there modified Rules of Golf for this tournament?

Relief from meltwater areas Relief from unforeseen obstacles/event signage etc. The extreme Environment dictates local rules, but fair play is the guiding principle as in any other golf tournament.

How are the greens (we call them whites) constructed?

Packed ice/snow putting areas surface with simple boundary markings. For Biosecurity a mimimal approach is taken to ensure we respect the pristine environment and ‘leave no trace’

Is the tournament walking-only?

Given the limited group size there are no caddies permitted, snow mobiles maybe used to carry bags or if anyone needs immediate assistance. Players should be reasonably fit and mobile, to not only enjoy the golf but the other activities on offer.

What is the group dynamic like?
